David Hansen (Drums)

David Hansen is a drummer, percussionist, composer, lyricist, music business, and record label owner, a voting member of the Grammy’s, a conductor, with experience recording, mixing, and mastering his own projects, and music educator residing in New Orleans and occasionally the Pacific Northwest between Washington State and British Columbia.

His music is unique with elements of jazz, jazz-fusion, Latin-jazz, funk, New Orleans styles, all infusing over 100 years of recorded jazz and various styles.

David’s style of performance is refined, tight, relaxed, and creative. His presentation is rarely performed the same way twice, providing a very engaging, dynamic, and emotional experience.

His musicality, technical mastery and creativity provide a musical journey exploring a depth of full-range musical nuances.

David has a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies, Percussion from the University of North Texas, where he performed with the acclaimed One O’clock Lab Band. In addition, he also performed with the Javanese gamelan, Indian tabla, African drumming, steel drum, Cuban percussion, multiple Lab-Bands, Penguins and Zebra ensembles.

He is a seasoned bandleader and has owned a music agency in New Orleans since 1994. David has organized tours, itineraries, and music for events in New Orleans and worldwide, including Ireland, Scotland, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Mexico, Japan, Malaysia, Dominican Republic, Canada, Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina. 

David has studied with: Ed Soph, Ron Fink, Randy Drake, Dr. John Wooton, Dr. Robert Schieteoma, Ignacio Berroa, Duris Maxwell, Vince Ricci, Pat Stewart, Dan Haerle, and so many more talented and inspiring musicians.

David has performed music with regional and national artists such as Al Hirt, Jimmy Buffett, Roland Guerin, Davell Crawford, Lino Patruno, Mauro Carpi, Lorenzo Arbore, Franco Nero, Tim Laughlin, Tom Fischer, Brian Ogilvie, Baron Raymonde, Bob Havens, John Royan, Tom McDermott, Bob Molinelli, Oscar Rosignelli, Deanna Witkowski, Ryan Shore, Craig Klein, Bill Huntington, Brian Quezergue, Javier Gutierrez, and countless fine New Orleans and international recording artists.

Original Recorded Music

Hansen has lived in New Orleans since 1991. He introduced his original compositions on the album “Garden District Trio; Upward” which did well on the JazzWeek charts. This new album includes a collaboration of extremely talented New Orleans musicians. His original music has listeners hearing and feeling something unique. Clifford Brown Jr. says: Nice Project, Well Done! Hansen’s Garden District Band has performed at most venues in New Orleans and multiple International since 1994. The hundreds of performances in New Orleans includes the French Quarter Festival where Hansen’s all-star 7-piece band has featured 30 plus of New Orleans extremely talented musicians.

Hansen’s original compositions include nuances of classic standards, New Orleans traditional jazz, bebop, Latin/Jazz to funky New Orleans street-beat or second line songs in a very creative, highly improvised, and musical setting.

New Adventures

Outside of music, during the Covid-19 pandemic, David worked diligently on fixed wing aviation and completed his commercial, multi-engine, and instrument ratings. CFI-CFII, advanced ground instructor and ground instructor instrument. He also completed the reciprocal FAA to Transport Canada rating exams and is a fully licensed Commercial, Multi-engine, night, and Instrument pilot in Canada as well.
